Types of fabrics and woven fabrics

There are many types of fabrics, and it is difficult to understand the characteristics and differences of each fabric.

Here, I would like to explain the types of fabrics and woven fabrics.

  • Oshima Tsumugi

Oshima Tsumugi is a yarn-dyed fabric made in Amami Oshima.

Silk hand tsumugi threads are used for both the warp and weft, soaked in the dye taken from the bark of Tetiki, placed in iron-rich mud, dyed in a dark brown color, and then woven into a Kasuri pattern.

It is considered to be the finest tsumugi woven fabric.

  • Organdy

Organdy is a thin, plain woven fabric that is lightly transparent and has a firm finish. It also has an elegant luster and is used for dresses, blouses, artificial flowers, etc.

  • Oxford

Oxford is a finely textured cotton fabric with a soft, flat feel and a beautiful luster. Although the ground feels relatively thick, it is highly breathable due to the structure and is resistant to wrinkles.
There are two warp threads of the same thickness, two weft threads made of diagonal weave, and one weft thread that is twice as thick as the warp threads.

It has a rough and youthful mood and is preferred as a shirt and sports shirt.
It is derived from the shirt sold under this name at Oxford University in England.

  • Ottoman

An ottoman is made by striking a fine count yarn on the warp yarn, aligning two or more thick count yarns on the weft yarn, and weaving it into a plain weave structure, and the feature is that the weft ridges appear clearly.

It is the organization with the thickest ridges in the weft ridge fabric.

In a typical horizontal ridge fabric, the horizontal ridge pitch of Feil is about 0.5 mm, the horizontal ridge pitch of grosgrain is about 1 mm, and the ottoman is 2 mm or more.
Originally, this material was a silk fabric, but since it has few uses, it has changed to hair, cotton, and synthetic fibers, and is used for men's casual jackets and pants. In addition, ottoman crepe is a weft that uses strong twisted yarn to give it a crisp feel.

  • Demon call

Oni call is a corduroy with thick ridges.

The width of the vertical ridges is the widest, and the number of ridges per inch is 4 or less.

  • Opal georgette

An opal georgette is a georgette with a transparent pattern made by opal processing.

An opaque pattern appears to float on the transparent fabric.

* Opal processing is a secondary finishing process. It refers to damage processing that dissolves a specific material using a chemical called an opal agent.
It is mainly applied to natural fibers such as cotton.

As an application, when applied to a blended material such as synthetic fiber, only cotton is melted and the finish is like lace, and various results can be obtained depending on the material.
A type of discharge printing, which is made by twisting acid-resistant fibers such as silk, nylon, and polyester with vegetable fibers, and dyeing them with an oxidizing agent.
In the dyed part, the affected fiber decomposes and falls off, and only the unaffected part remains and can be seen through. There is also a colored opal process that colors the openwork.
